Venue: Basilica of St. John the Baptist

Featuring: Lady Cove Women’s Choir, Newman Sound Men’s ChoirNewfoundland Symphony Orchestra SinfoniaDeantha Edmunds, Soprano, and Karrie Obed, Tenor

More than 200 years ago, Moravian missionaries introduced European classical music to the Inuit people of Labrador. Lady Cove, joined by Newman Sound Men’s Choir and the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra Sinfonia, will perform 18th century classical music revived from reconstructed original manuscripts found in the churches of Nain, Hopedale and Makkovik.  You may hear some familiar tunes by composers you know well but, with text transcribed in the Inuktitut language, they take on a wonderful perspective that is treasured in the Inuit communities of Labrador.

Featuring Deantha Edmunds, a classically trained Inuk soprano, and Karrie Obed, the tradition-bearer and lead tenor of the Nain church choir, Lady Cove is privileged to have the opportunity to honour the traditions of our northern neighbors in this culturally enriching experience. Don’t miss this chance to experience this musical tapestry inspired by the Big Land!

ON SALE To general public Nov 3rd at 10:00am

“Good morning, Earth!” That is how Colonel Chris Hadfield – writing on Twitter – woke up the world every day while living for 5 months aboard the International Space Station. Through his 21-years as an astronaut, 3 spaceflights and 2600 orbits of Earth, Colonel Hadfield has become a worldwide sensation, harnessing the power of social media to make outer space accessible to millions and infusing a sense of wonder into our collective consciousness not felt since humanity first walked on the Moon. Called “the most famous astronaut since Neil Armstrong,” Chris Hadfield continues to bring the marvels of science and space travel to everyone he encounters.

Colonel Hadfield is a pioneer of many historic “firsts”. In 1992 he was selected by the

Canadian Space Agency as a NASA Mission Specialist – Canada’s first fully-qualified

Space Shuttle crew member. Three years later, aboard Shuttle Atlantis, he was the first Canadian to operate the Canadarm in space, and the first Canadian to board a Russian spacecraft as he helped build space station “Mir.” In 2001, aboard Shuttle Endeavour, Colonel Hadfield performed two spacewalks – the first Canadian to do so – and in 2013 he was Commander of the International Space Station – the first and only Canadian to ever command a spaceship – so far.

During his multi-faceted career Hadfield has intercepted Soviet bombers in Canadian airspace, lived on the ocean floor, been NASA’s Director of Operations in Russia, and recorded science and music videos seen by hundreds of millions.

A heavily decorated astronaut, engineer, and pilot, Colonel Hadfield’s many awards include receiving the Order of Canada, the Meritorious Service Cross, and the NASA Exceptional Service Medal. He was named the Top Test Pilot in both the US Air Force and the US Navy, and has been inducted into Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame. He is the author of two internationally bestselling books, An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth and You Are Here, and has been commemorated on Canadian postage stamps, Royal Canadian Mint coins, and on Canada’s newest five dollar bill (along with fellow astronauts Steve MacLean and Dave Williams).

Presented by: Spank the Plank Productions

On Sale: Jan 19th at 10:00am

A master technician, Emmanuel started professionally at age 6, rising through the ranks as a studio player and member of several Australian rock bands before he set off on a solo career. One of only five musicians handpicked by his mentor, Chet Atkins, as a Certified Guitar Player (CGP), he’s piled up numerous accolades, including two Grammy nominations, two ARIA Awards from the Australian Recording Industry Association (the Aussie equivalent of the Recording Academy) and repeated honors in the Guitar Player magazine reader’s poll.

A noted fingerstyle guitarist, Emmanuel frequently threads three different parts simultaneously into his material, operating as a one-man band who handles the melody, the supporting chords and the bass all at once. His talents, which translate in any language, carry him to the far corners of the globe, but Emmanuel never plays the same show twice, and he improvises big chunks of every date. That leaves him open to those technical imperfections, though they also provide some of the humanity to an other-worldly talent.

“It’s all about the feeling of the music,” Emmanuel says. “And it has to make me feel something. I’m still playing for myself, you know, because I figure if I please me, then I’m pretty sure I’m gonna please you. And that’s not an arrogant statement, it’s just quality control.”
